Dr. Brian Gibbs is an associate director of music, and Director of the Bearkat Marching Band at Sam Houston State University. Within the band program he guides the efforts of the student leadership, and provides boundless musical knowledge to our students. Dr. Gibbs holds a Ph.D. in Education from the Walden University Richard W. Riley College of Education and Leadership. He also holds a B.M. degree and M.S. Business & Human Relations degree from Southern Methodist University and Amberton University respectively. Dr. Gibbs has always fostered an environment of student leadership and peak excellence in the band, and continuous to empower his students to achieve all that they strive for.

Dr. Brian Gibbs has been the sponsor of Alpha Omicron for five years. He actively advocates the chapter in many aspects of our service and sisterhood. As the Director of the Bearkat Marching Band, the chapter works closely with him to ensure that the needs of the band are taken care of appropriately at every rehearsal and performance. As a testament to his dedication to our success, Dr. Gibbs was awarded the Outstanding Sponsor Award in 2012.

Director of Bands

Dr. Matthew Mcinturf is Professor of Music, Director of Bands and Director of the Center for Music Education at Sam Houston State University in Huntsville, Texas. 

An advocate of new music, Dr. McInturf has continued to commission new works for wind ensemble. He is a member of the Board of Directors of the World-Wide Concurrent Premiers and Commissioning Fund, Inc., a non-profit corporation that works internationally to form consortiums to commission significant new works from contemporary composers. Dr. McInturf has served on the National Commissioning Committee of the College Band Directors National Association and the Commissioning Committee of the American Bandmasters Association.

Dr. McInturf is a Past President of the Texas Bandmasters Association and serves as Region Officer in the Texas Music Educators Association. He is the Vice President of the Southwestern Division of the College Band Directors National Association. He is active in the World Association for Symphonic Bands and Ensembles, the American Bandmasters Association and is a member of the College Music Society. Dr. McInturf enjoys guest conducting and frequently serves as a clinician and adjudicator.
